A student involved in the protest told the BBC that our classes were online so our exams should also be online or we should be tested in the classroom after being given the opportunity to study on campus.


Videos on social media showed protesting students chanting slogans against the on-campus exam decision and holding placards reading 'Class on Zoom, So Why in the Exam Room?' Such slogans are also listed.


Students in Lahore have announced a protest at Cheering Cross on Friday afternoon. According to the BBC's Ali Kazmi, although the protesting students have not yet arrived, police have been there since morning.

Professor Ammar Ali Jan, a student rights activist, has accused police, along with security guards at the University of Central Punjab, of torturing students protesting online exams.

It may be recalled that after the protest three days ago, Lahore police had registered cases against several students, including student leader Zubair Siddiqui.


According to the lawsuit, 50 to 60 unidentified and a few known students, led by Zubair Siddiqui, who were armed, rioted, pelted stones and provoked at the gate number two of the University of Central Punjab.


According to a police spokesman, after the commotion, police arrested 36 students, who have been produced in court and sent to jail.

Family members and associates of five students in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, claim that police arrested Zubair Siddiqui, Sanaullah Amin and others at around 4am on Thursday and took them away.


According to the claim, all the arrests were made from Sanaullah Amin's residence. However, a Lahore police spokesman confirmed the arrest of Zubair Siddiqui but denied the arrest of the other four.


Sedrah Bano, the wife of Sanaullah Amin, who claims to be an eyewitness to the arrest, said police raided her house that night with her husband Sanaullah and his friend and student leader Zubair, a Lahore-based activist Besides Siddiqui, Ali Ashraf Malik, Sulaiman Sikandar and Haris Ahmed were arrested and taken away.


According to Sedara Bano, the police knocked on the door at 4 am and her husband's cousin opened the door and grabbed her by the neck.

"Three or four people were in plain clothes and everyone else was in police uniform. None of them were female police officers. They went to the room and grabbed Zubair Siddiqui. "Take the rest with you," said one police officer.


"When I asked her where she was being taken, she said we meant only Zubair Siddiqui while the rest of the people were being taken only for questioning," she said.


"During the arrests, I heard loud slaps, which scared me into a room."

Sidra Bano said that when she found out from the police in the morning, they were denying that they had arrested anyone.


So far I have searched all the police stations in Lahore. I am not being told anything about my husband, Zubair Siddiqui and the other three students whose students have nothing to do with the protest.

Lahore police spokesman Rana Arif said police had arrested Zubair Siddiqui but denied any violence.


He said that Zubair Siddiqui had not been arrested in the case in which he had been granted bail but he had been arrested in another case. Many of his videos have gone viral on social media. In which they are shown torturing and inciting violence.

Lahore police spokesman Rana Arif said police had arrested Zubair Siddiqui but denied any violence.


Rana Arif said that the police is bound to produce the arrested accused in the court within 24 hours and before that the accused does not have the right to meet anyone. "We will produce Zubair Siddiqui in court in 24 hours," he said.


However, Rana Arif said that the claim of arrest of the remaining four persons was not true as the police did not arrest any more people.


Several attempts were made to contact Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information, to get the government's position, but to no avail. It was informed that Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan was in a meeting with the Punjab Chief Minister.


Fear of violence against students

"We have solid evidence that the police have arrested five students, including Zebar Siddiqui," said Barrister Janat Ali Kalhiar, a student lawyer.


"They have been searching all over Lahore since morning but the police have refused to arrest them," he said. That is why we fear that they will not be tortured. "

Barrister Janat Ali added: "Zubair Siddiqui has been nominated in a case but he has obtained pre-arrest bail from the court. His arrest is a serious violation of court orders.


"We also fear that the other four students, whose names are not in the case, have been arrested by the police," said Janat Ali Kalhiar.


He said that non-disclosure of arrest by the police was also a gross violation of the Constitution, law and human rights, on which preparations were being made to approach the court.


Haider Ali, the central student leader of the Progressive Students Organization, said that the police and the government were resorting to illegal tactics, which would not be silenced, and that there would be protests across the country, including Lahore, on Friday at 2pm.
